Partially needed to avoid build breakages because Corrade itself
switched as well, partially because a cleanup is always good. Done
except for (STL-heavy) code that's deprecated or SceneGraph-related APIs
that are still quite full of STL as well.
A counterpart / inverse to Verbose, is meant to be used by plugins to
suppress all warnings.
This flag was already used by the ShaderConverter APIs. Fonts don't have
any flags (and don't have any verbose output or warnings at the moment
either), so there it isn't added; audio importers are in a maintenance
mode with no new features added as I'll be eventually merging them with
the general importer interface in Trade.
This means I (and people making their own plugins) don't need to go and
update each and every plugin once the version in the interface string
gets bumped after a (silent) ABI break. Such as when new virtual
functions get added, as those often lead to strange crashes if the
plugins don't get rebuilt after.
The plugins will now use this macro, which means they'll
automatically embed an interface string that was present in the base
class header at build time. However, when the base class updates, the
previous string is still embedded in the plugin binary, which will then
fail to load -- this being automatic doesn't mean the original purpose
is lost. Subsequently rebuilding the plugins from source will make them
pick up the updated interface string again.
Unlike most other options, where a plugin can support 3D but not 2D or
compressed but not uncompressed data, the "levels" option is orthogonal
to the rest -- if a format supports multi-level data, it obviously also
supports a case where there is just a single level, and if it supports
multi-level images, then it likely supports them for 1D, 2D and 3D, not
just some.
I used the same reasoning for the new SceneConverterFeatures interfaces
already, just "backporting" it here as well.
The bit pattern actually followed this already, but for some reason I
still went ahead and stamped out all possible combinations. Because
of that, nothing really changes on the ABI side either and the
deprecated aliases are now exactly as they were before, so no need to
bump the plugin interface version.
They are required to have the same format already, so flags make sense
as well -- what's the point of saving a multi-level cube map with one of
the levels being just a 2D array, anyway?
This is what commit ca722eac6e should
have been.
Sorry for breaking a non-deprecated MSVC build once again. The reason it
"appeared to work" for me was that on deprecated builds, Manager.h
includes Manager.hpp for backwards compatibility. On non-deprecated it
doesn't and MSVC ends up dying on a linker error. But the problem was
not related to extern templates, the problem was that there was a
compiler-specific ifdef in the cpp file which exported the class for all
compilers but MSVC, somehow. And so when I removed extern template from
the header, it still worked everywhere, except MSVC and except a
non-deprecated build.
Hey, do you also remember the times where people were excited to upgrade
from Clang 3.6 to 3.7, GCC 4.7 to 4.8 or Firefox 1.1 to Firefox 1.5? Not
Clang 12 to 14, GCC 10 to 13 or Chrome 102 to 126.
Consistently with changes done to Utility::Path, this enforces proper
error handling on user side. Originally I didn't want to do this and
instead wanted to have a special Array instance devoted for an error
state, but that still would allow the error state be errorneously
treated as a successful but empty array.
For file opening there's no longer an unatomic pair of exists() +
read(), but since Path::read() now returns an Optional, it means we can
reliably distinguish between empty files and failures.
While at it, also added TODOs for removal of the StringStl.h header
that's needed in various places for compatibility with APIs still using
STL strings.
The multi-level APIs still don't check anything regarding level sizes
and order since for example *.ico has no restrictions at all. But the
rest (like non-zero size) is a restriction for all file formats I'm
aware of.
TgaImageConverter test had to be adapted, I expect a lot of breakages in
plugins tests as well. But user code should be fine I think. Also
reduced the rather excessive dimensions in AbstractImageConverterTest,
since the allocation requirement now made the default Emscripten heap
OOM.
To avoid combinatorial explosion of functions that have to be
implemented on the plugin side, the single-image variants proxy to the
multi-level variants, if available.
THe plugin interface string had to be bumped because otherwise there was
a *really nasty* silent ABI break where instead of doSetFlags() it was
suddenly calling doConvert().
First and foremost I need to expand the interface to support 3D
image conversion. But the interface was not great to begin with, so this
takes the opportunity of an API break and does several things:
* The `export*()` names were rather strange and I don't even remember
why I chose that name (maybe because at first I wanted to have an
"exporter" API as a counterpart to importers?)
* In addition, there was no way to convert a compressed image to a
compressed image (or to an uncompressed image) and adding the two
missing variants would be a lot of combinations. So instead the new
convert() returns an ImageData, which can be both, and thus also
allows the converters to produce compressed or uncompressed output
based on some runtime setting, without having to implement two
(four?) separate functions for that and requiring users to know
beforehand what type of an image will be created.
* The ImageConverterFeature enum was named in a really strange way as
well, with ConvertCompressedImage meaning "convert to a compressed
image" while "ConvertCompressedData" instead meant "convert a
compressed image to a data". Utter chaos. It also all implied 2D and
on the other hand had a redundant `Image` in the name, so I went and
remade the whole thing. As mentioned above, two of the enums now mean
the same thing, and are both replaced with Convert2D.
* Finally, similarly as changes elsewhere, I took this opportunity to
get rid of std::string in the convertToFile() APIs.
There will be Flag::FlipY for images at some point, enabled by default
for compatibility with existing GL code, and so it makes sense to start
discouraging setFlags() as early as possible to avoid people resetting
the default by accident.
Also update the imageconverter, sceneconverter and shaderconverter utils
to use these instead of setFlags().
Bloaty says it saved 10 kB in Debug build of MagnumGL:

That's not negative, so I guess that's good. This change is of course
more significant in the context of a minimal WebGL build, where the exe
can be as little as 50 kB -- there 4 kB is almost 10% of the size.
This makes it possible to:
- finally use Magnum as a CMake subproject on Windows and have your
executables not fail to run with a "DLL missing" error (and the
setting is put to cache so superprojects just implicitly make use of
that)
- run tests on Windows without having to install first
- use dynamic plugins from a CMake subproject on any platform without
having to install first or load them by filename --- and the plugin
directory is now easily discovered as relative to
libraryLocation() of the library implementing given plugin interface
And removing the bundled std::optional implementation. This finally
makes this library compatible with C++17. Since this would be a huge
backwards-incompatible change that would make everyone angry, the
following had to be done in case both CORRADE_BUILD_DEPRECATED and
MAGNUM_BUILD_DEPRECATED is defined:
* Under C++11 and C++14, Containers::Optional / Containers::NullOpt is
aliased to std::optional / std::nullopt. This is no worse than the
state before, when we also provided these symbols.
* Under C++17, where standard <optional> header is available,
Containers::Optional provides implicit conversion to it. Only one-way
conversion is supported, as there was fortunately no Magnum API that
took std::optional via parameter, and there might be some corner
cases that this doesn't cover. The goal is to have all examples
compiling with the old API, at least.
* There's a new test especially for this, which checks that both the
C++11 and C++17 ways of doing things work as they should.
The typedef and conversion is marked as deprecated, so it will spit out
many warnings to push users to upgrade. I hope I can completely remove
this mess soon :/
